Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves directed by Kevin Reynolds released in June 14, 1991. The first time I watched it was twenty years ago and now, rewatching it again, even though there was a few mistakes, goofs and bloopers with the film and Kevin Costner (with his not so English accent) might not be the best Robin Hood but this film is still the best Robin Hood with the most entertaining action-adventure that I have ever watched.

Sometimes the only way to uphold justice is to break the law. For the good of all men and the love of one woman, he fought to uphold justice by breaking the law. Robin Hood, a heroic outlaw in English folklore, a highly skilled archer and swordsman assisted by a group of fellow outlaws known as his "Merry Men" has been known for robbing from the rich and giving to the poor in the beginning of the 19th century.

The film begins with Robin of Locksley (Kevin Costner), an English nobleman is captured and jailed in a dungeon in Jerusalem along with his comrade Peter. Robin escapes, saving the life of a Moor named Azeem (Morgan Freeman) in the process but Peter dies in the attempt and has Robin swears to protect his sister Marian (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio). Robin makes the long journey back to England with Azeem, who claims he must accompany Robin until the debt of saving his life is repaid.

In England, with King Richard I gone, the cruel Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman) rules over the land, aided by his brute cousin, Guy of Gisbourne (Michael Wincott) along with the precognitive evil witch Mortianna (Geraldine McEwan) and the corrupt Bishop of Hereford. At Locksley castle, Robin finds his father dead, his home in ruins and the Sheriff and his men oppressing the people. With his lands and reputation gone Robin swears to avenge his father's murder. Robin then begins by seeking out Maid Marian, the cousin of the king and his childhood friend. He is immediately attracted to Marian, although she does not return the feelings which poses a problem because Nottingham also has his sights set on her.

While fleeing the Sheriff's forces, Robin and Azeem encounter a band of outlaws hiding in Sherwood Forest where they come across Little John (Nick Brimble) and a large group of woodsmen, all of whom were outlawed through the tyranny of the Sheriff. After proving his skill in single combat, Robin is accepted into their group and eventually becomes their leader. Robin encourages his men to fight back against Nottingham and begins to train them to defend themselves. They rob English soldiers and convoys that pass through the forest, then distribute the stolen wealth among the poor while they build weapons and homes in the forest.

The ending is beautiful, as usual bad guy died and good people have a blessed ending. Robin and Marian profess their love for each other and marry in the forest. The soundtrack song, (Everything I Do) I Do It For You by Bryan Adams was awesome as well.

(EVERYTHING I DO) I DO IT FOR YOU
Bryan Adams

Look into my eyes, you will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart, search your soul
And when you find me there
You'll search no more

Don't tell me, it's not worth trying for
You can't tell me, it's not worth dying for
You know it's true
Everything I do, I do it for you

Look into your heart, you will find
There's nothing there to hide
Take me as I am, take my life
I would give it all, I would sacrifice

Don't tell me it's not worth fighting for
I can't help it, there's nothing I want more
You know it's true
Everything I do, I do it for you, oh yeah

There's no love, like your love
And no other could give more love
There's nowhere, unless you're there
All the time, all the way yeah

Look into your heart baby
Oh yeah

Oh, you can't tell me it's not worth trying for
I can't help it, there's nothing I want more
Yeah I would fight for you I'd lie for you
Walk the wire for you
Yeah I'd die for you
You know it's true
Everything I do, ohh, I do it for you

Serenedipity

Serenedipity, a nice word and I kind of fancy with it. The word was formed from the Persian fairy tale, The Three Princes of Serendip, whose heroes "were always making discoveries by accidents and sagacity, of things they were not in quest of".

File:Serendipity poster.jpgIn 2001, Peter Chelsom directed a romantic comedy of the same wording as the film title. The story tells of a couple reunite years after the night they first met in New York City, fell in love and separated, convinced that one day they will end up together.

Jonathan Trager (John Cusack) meets Sara Thomas (Kate Beckinsale) by chance in the Christmas eve, in Bloomingdale's, both trying to buy the last pair of black cashmere gloves available for sales. Despite each being in a relationship with other people at the time, they spend an amazing afternoon together and attracted to each other. Jonathan wants her contact information "just in case", but Sara, a fatalist, plays games of fate with Jonathan to determine if they are indeed meant to be together.

Sara decides to write her contact information in a book, Love in the Time of Cholera and his on a five dollars bill. She gives the bill to a newspaperman and she says that she would sell the book in a New York used books store. If they are meant to be together, he will find the book, she will find the five dollars bill and they will find their way back to each other.

Life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences,
but rather it is a tapestry of acts that culminate in an exquisite, sublime plan.

If we are to live life in harmony with the universe,
we must all possess a powerful faith in what the ancients used to call "fatum",
what we currently refer to as destiny.

WHEN YOU KNOW - Shawn Colvin

When you know that you know who you love, you can't deny it.
Or go back, or give up, or pretend that you don't buy it.
When it's clear this time you've found the one, you'll never let him go
Cos you know and you know that you know.

When you feel in your skin in your bones and the hollow
Of your heart, there's no way you can wait till tomorrow.
When there isn't any doubt about it once you come this close
Cos you know and you know that you know.

You can feel love surround you like the sky 'round the moon.
This is how love has found you, now you know what to do.

When you know that you know who you need, you can't deny it.
Or go back, or give up, or pretend that you don't buy it.
When it's clear this time you've found the one, you'll never let him go
Cos you know and you know that you know.

And it's time you come in from the cold.
Haaa ...
And you know that you know.

Don't Cry For Me, Argentina

DON'T CRY FOR ME, ARGENTINA - Jane Zhang

It won't be easy, you'll think it strange
When I try to explain how I feel
That I still need your love after all that I've done

You won't believe me
All you will see is a girl you once knew
Although she's dressed up to the nines
At sixes and sevens with you

And as for fortune, and as for fame
I never invited them in
Though it seemed to the world they were all I desired

They are illusions
They are not the solutions they promised to be
The answer was here all the time
I love you and hope you love me

Don't cry for me Argentina
The truth is I never left you
All through my wild days
My mad existence
I kept my promise
Don't keep your distance

Have I said too much?
There's nothing more I can think of to say to you.
But all you have to do is look at me to know
That every word is true

Por Una Cabeza

carlos gardel por una cabeza + 3"Por una cabeza", meaning "by a head of a horse" in Spanish, is a popular tango song composed in 1935 by Carlos Gardel and Alfredo Le Pera. Gardel was the composer and Le Pera the lyricist.

The lyrics of the song talk about a compulsive horse-track gambler who compares his addiction for the horses with his attraction to women.

It has been performed by numerous tango orchestras and is commonly featured in films and television. Tango scenes with "Por una cabeza" appear in Planet 51, Schindler's List, Scent of a Woman, Delicatessen, True Lies, All the King's Men, Bad Santa, Episode 37 of Nip/Tuck, Episode 9 of Sweet Spy, the beginning and ending credits of I'm Sorry, I Love You, and the CSI: NY episode "Down the Rabbit Hole", and in the movie "Frida" (Salma Hayek), Gardel is heard on a radio singing it. It is also quoted in David Del Tredici's "Good News! Nilda is Back" (from the song cycle Miz Inez Sez).

When I Fall In Love

WHEN I FALL IN LOVE - Celine Dion & Clive Griffin

When I fall in love
It will be forever
Or I'll never fall in love

In a restless world
Like this is
Love is ended before it's begun
And too many
Moonlight kisses
Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun

When I give my heart
I give it completely
Or I'll never give my heart

And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I fall in love with you

When I Fall In Love was featured in the romantic comedy Sleepless in Seattle which released on June 1993. Based on a story by Jeff Arch, it stars Tom Hanks as Sam Baldwin and Meg Ryan as Annie Reed.

I Finally Found Someone

I FINALLY FOUND SOMEONE - Barbara Streisand & Bryan Adams

I finally found someone, who knocks me off my feet
I finally found the one who makes me feel complete
It started over coffee, we started out as friends
Its funny how from simple things, the best things begin

This time is different (la, la, la, la)
Its all because of you (la, la, la, la)
Its better than it's ever been
Cuz we can talk it through
My favorite line was can I call you sometime?
Its all you had to say
To take my breath away

This is it
Oh, I finally found someone
Someone to share my life
I finally found the one to be with every night
Cause whatever I do
Its just got to be you
My life has just begun, I finally found someone

Ooh, someone
I finally found someone
Ooh

Did I keep you waiting (I didn't mind)
I apologize (baby, that's fine)
I would wait forever
Just to know you were mine
Ya know, I love your hair
(are you sure it looks right? )
I love what you wear
(isnt it too tight)
Youre exceptional
I can't wait for the rest of my life

Oh, this is it
Oh, I finally found someone
Someone to share my life
I finally found the one to be with every night
Cause whatever I do
Its just got to be you
(oh, yeah)
My life has just begun
I finally found someone
And whatever I do
Its just got to be you
Ooh, my life has just begun
I finally found someone

I Have Nothing

Being in love, it makes us so vulnerable. It opens our chest and opens up our heart to allow someone get inside us and mess us up. We build up all defenses, build up a whole suit of armor so that nothing can hurt us but love takes hostages. It gets inside of us and leaves us crying in the darkness ... ... It hurts. Not just in the imagination, not just in the mind but it's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain ... ...

The truth may hurt for a little while but a lie hurts forever ... ...

"Dance as though no one is watching you. Love as though you have never been hurt before. Sing as though no one can hear you. Live as though heaven is on earth."

I HAVE NOTHING - Whitney Houston

Share my life, take me for what I am
Coz I'll never change all my colors for you
Take my love, I'll never ask for too much
Just all that you are and everything that you do

I don't really need to look very much further
I don't want to have to go where you don't follow
I won't hold it back again, this passion inside
Can't run from myself
There's nowhere to hide

Well, don't make me close one more door
I don't wanna hurt anymore
Stay in my arms if you dare
Or must I imagine you there
Don't walk away from me...
I have nothing, nothing, nothing
If I don't have you, you, you, you, you, you...

You see through, right to the heart of me
You break down my walls with the strength of your love mmmmm...
I never knew love like I've known it with you
Will a memory survive, one I can hold on to

I don't really need to look very much further
I don't want to have to go where you don't follow
I won't hold it back again, this passion inside
I Can't run from myself
There's nowhere to hide
Your love I'll remember, forever

Don't make me close one more door
I don't wanna hurt anymore
Stay in my arms if you dare
Or must I imagine you there
Don't walk away from me...
I have nothing, nothing, nothing...

Well, don't make me close one more door
I don't wanna hurt anymore
Stay in my arms if you dare
Or must I imagine you there
Don't walk away from me no...
Don't walk away from me
Don't you dare walk away from me
I have nothing, nothing, nothing
If I don't have you, you
ooohhh, ooooh
if i don't have you, oohh...

I Will Always Love You

I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU - Whitney Houston

If I should stay
I would only be in your way
So I'll go but I know
I'll think of you every step of the way

And I... will always love you, oohh
Will always love you
You my darling you
Mmm-mm

Bittersweet memories
That is all I'm taking with me
So good-bye please don't cry
We both know I'm not what you you need

And I... will always love you
I... will always love you
You, ooh

I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you've dreamed of
And I wish you joy and happiness
But above all this I wish you love

And I... will always love you
I... will always love you

I, I will always love you....
You darling I love you
I'll always
I'll always
Love you..
Oooh
Ooohhh

Sliding Doors

"Sliding Doors" directed by Peter Howitt and released on June 1998. The film follows the life of Helen Quilley (Gwyneth Paltrow), who is arriving at work one morning and discovers that she had been unjustifiably sacked from her PR job.

The film's plot splits into two parallel universes which run in tandem. In one universe, Helen catches the tube train, meets James and arrives home to find her loathsome Lothario lover Gerry cheating on her with his ex-girlfriend Lydia. In the other reality, Helen misses the tube train, gets mugged, goes to hospital and eventually arrives home to find Gerry alone in the shower. The two realities move forward in tandem; in one Helen leaves Gerry and forms a happy, new, loving relationship with James; in the other Helen's live becomes more and more wretched as she takes on two jobs to support her worthless, cheating boyfriend as he supposedly writes his novel but in fact carries on a torrid affair with Lydia.

"Sliding Doors" is one of the best films that Gwyneth Paltrow has done. Humour, anger, sadness, love, compassion and a lot of lying in this film and the most special of this film is for the way the two storylines overlap, making a very original movie. It uses the concept of time by showing what a significant difference a few seconds can make in one's life.

Though life is like a sliding door, it closes one end but opens the other but the result is much alike as everything in our path and destiny is preordained in the book of providence.

"Expect nothing, live frugally on surprise. And we should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once. And we should call every truth false which was not accompanied by at least one laugh."

TURN BACK TIME - Aqua

Give me time to reason
Give me time to think it through
Passing through the season
Where I cheated you

I will always have a cross to wear
But the bolt reminds me I was there
So give me strength
To face this test tonight

If only I could turn back time
If only I had said what I still hide
If only I could turn back time
I would stay for the night.
For the night...

Claim your right to science
Claim your right to see the truth
Though my pangs of conscience
Will drill a hole in you

I seen it coming like a thief in the night
I seen it coming from the flash of your light
So give me strength
To face this test tonight

If only I could turn back time
If only I had said what I still hide
If only I could turn back time...
I would stay for the night

The bolt reminds me I was there the bolt reminds me I was there
If only I could turn back time
If only I had said what I still hide
If only I could turn back time
I would stay for the night

Life Is Beautiful

"Life Is Beautiful" is an Italian language film which tells the story of a Jewish Italian, Guido Orefice (played by Roberto Benigni, who also directed and co-wrote the film), who must employ his fertile imagination to help his son survive their internment in a Nazi concentration camp (a camp which maintained by Nazi Germany, under Adolf Hitler throughout the territories it controlled). This film was released in October 1998 and is an unforgettable fable that proves love, family and imagination conquer all.

The film starts in the 1930s, Guido, an Italian Jew, falls in love with a school teacher, Dora, who isn't Jewish. He woos her and steals at her engagement from her rude and loud fiance, a Fascist official. They get married and several years later, their son Giosue grows up among growing anti-Semitism. During WWII, Guido and Giosue are arrested and taken to a concentration camp. Dora goes too, determined not to separate the family. In the midst of the horrors of the camp where the old and the children are killed because they are not strong enough to work, Guido protects his son by pretending that survival in the concentration camp is an elaborate game with which Giosue must play along or be sent home. Various levels of creativity are used by Guido to protect his son in the camp.

This is a great film of love, optimism, courage and inner strength and I was being moved by the love of a father; a sacrificing of a father made for the son which he created lights for him to move forward in continuing while facing with obstacles. Even right until the end of his life, he still not forgeting to make his son laugh one last time by imitating the Nazi guard as if the two of them are marching around the camp together. The son, Giosue manages to survive, and thinks he has won the game when an American tank arrives to liberate the camp and not knowing that his father has died. A truly sad tragedy and encouraging film.

"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way."

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL - Noa

Smile, without a reason why
Love, as if you were a child
Smile, no matter what they tell you
Don't listen to a word they say
Cause life is beautiful that way

Tears, a tidal wave of tears
Light, that slowly disappears
Wait, before you close the curtain
There is still another game to play
And life is beautiful that way

Here with his eyes forevermore
I will always be as close as you
Remember from before
Now that you're out there on your own
Remember what is real and
What we dream is love alone

Keep the laughter in your eyes
Soon your long awaited prize
We'll forget about our sorrows
And think about a brighter day
Cause life is beautiful that way

We'll forget about our sorrows
And think about a brighter day
Cause life is beautiful that way
There's still another game to play
And life is beautiful that way

The Game Rule

Beautiful That Way - Noa

Titanic

Can't really remember how many times I have watched this film - Titanic, directed by James Cameron when it was released on December 1997. At least seven times in the theatre at that time I guess and indeed Im a Titanic buff. Well, this is one of the most wonderful films of the 20th Century that I have had watched which will never forget.

As I re-watched the film again after so many years later and I still transfixed with it eventhough it was not based on historical of the sinking ship, Titanic (the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters), many of the characters were not real and the fictional love story in the film, yet I love every details in it.

It brought me back to 1997 when I can remember how captivated I am to this film even now. It felt like you were on the ship, how you might have reacted had you been in that situation in time of crisis of live and death when the ship hit the iceberg on the starboard side and about to sink.

Despite the tragic love story of two different social classes of Rose Dewitt Bukater and Jack Dawson, there are many expatiates in the film shows everyone reacts differently in time of lives and death. Officer Murdoch turns his gun on himself after shooting two passengers who are rushing a lifeboat (took a pride and lack of integrity in the film - fictional), a third class mother attempting to sing her children to sleep (as being hopeless), gates locked which barred the third class passengers below the ship to stop them from taking a first class passenger's seat on a lifeboat (a different treatment of classes), Captain Smith enter the bridge and grasp the wheel as water crashes in, Titanic's band continue to play as the ship went under (by the way, Jonathan Evans Jones, the actor who portrayed Wallace Hartley in the film is a professional violinist).

It was a breathtaking when seeing the ship slowly go under the sea, people jumping off from the ship and a hundred freezing people screaming for help that never comes ... ...

In the end of the film, an old couple embracing in bed as water pours into their cabin. Found out that this old couple was non-fictional and in real life, they were both offered a place on lifeboat, but the old man chose to stay on the Titanic so long as there were women who remained on the ship. His wife refused to abandon her husband and said, "We have been living together for many years. Where you go, I go." The couple was last seen sitting on a pair of deck chairs (not lying in bed like in the film). I was totally being moved by this old couple (even there is no script for them in the film) for they have truly show "till death do them apart".

One thing amazed me about this film after so many years, in fact it was Director James Cameron did the sketch of Rose wearing the necklace. It is actually Cameron's hand, not Leonardo DiCaprio's in the movie. James Cameron also drew all of the pictures in Jack's sketchbook. That's impressive!

MY HEART WILL GO ON
Celin Dion

Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you,
That is how I know you go on

Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

Love can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never let go till we're gone

Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life well always go on

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

You're here, theres nothing I fear
And I know that my heart will go on
We'll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

I Will Remember You

Brought the CD - Closer the Best of Sarah McLachlan on yesterday. Sarah born in Jan 1968, a canadian musician, a pop singer and as well as a songwriter.

Love her songs, especially this one, I Will Remember You, it was being used often to remember human beings who have died in disasters like the September 11 attacks and those who have lost their love one. This song has touched my heart in many ways.

I WILL REMEMBER YOU - Sarah McLachlan

I will remember you, will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by, weep not for the memories
Remember the good times that we had? I let them slip away from us when things got bad
How clearly I first saw you smiling in the sun
Wanna feel your warmth upon me, I wanna be the one
I will remember you, will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by, weep not for the memories

I'm so tired but I can't sleep
Standing on the edge of something much too deep
It's funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word
We are screaming inside, but we can't be heard
But I will remember you, will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by, weep not for the memories

I'm so afraid to love you, but more afraid to loose
Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose
Once there was a darkness, deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me light
And I will remember you, will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by, weep not for the memories
And I will remember you, will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by, weep not for the memories
Weep not for the memories
